Fox Gives Wanda Sykes Her Own Talk Show

Good news Wanda Sykes fans! Fox announced today that they’re giving the comedian her very own Saturday late-night series. The hour long show is set to premiere in fall 2009 and will feature Sykes as she talks about current events and participate in other comedic performances that will be shot outside the studio and aired during the show.

In addition to stand-up comedy, Wanda Sykes has been in a number of films and TV shows, including The New Adventures of Old Christine, Curb Your Enthusiasm, License to Wed, My Super Ex-Girlfriend and Clerks II. She’s fairly outspoken and has a very distinct voice.

Sykes did a pretty good job of demonstrating her style of comedy when she commented on returning to Fox (she starred in the short-lived sitcom Wanda at Large, which Fox cancelled back in 2003):

“I’m married, so this was a great excuse to get out of the house on a Saturday night,” said Sykes. When asked about returning to FOX, she added, “Yes, my relationship with FOX hasn’t been the best, but if Rihanna can go back to Chris Brown, I can go back to FOX. Oprah tried to talk me out of it, but I think FOX has changed.”
