Prison Break Star In The Running For Spartacus?

Last week, Starz announced that they were moving forward with Season 2 of Spartacus: Blood and Sand and word is, a former Prison Break star may be up for the titular role.

With Andy Whitfield no longer playing the role of Spartacus in the bloody, sexy action series, due to illness, Starz is set to recast him. According to Deadline, Dominic Purcell, who played Lincoln Burrows in Prison Break, may be up for the role. Deadline reported that Purcell submitted a screen test via email to Starz.

I’ll admit, I hadn’t considered Purcell for the part when trying to envision who might be able to take over for Whitfield but I have absolutely no trouble picturing him filling Whitfield’s sandals now. While I was always a bit partial to Wentworth Miller’s boyish good looks when it came to crushing on Prison Break characters, Purcell’s furrowed brow and broody nature (not to mention his rugged physique) would work nicely for Spartacus.

No matter who’s cast in the role, I doubt the transition from one Spartacus to another will be easy for fans but if this news about Purcell being in the running is true, it seems Starz is on the right track as far as a replacement goes.
