The Mentalist or The Good Wife? That’s the way most network experts pitched CBS’ Sunday night dilemma. They could either renew the well-liked, moderately-rated crime procedural that does very well in syndication and overseas or they could renew the award-winning, moderately-rated legal drama. It was supposedly one or the other.
Taking over for The Crazy Ones as the lone single-camera comedy on CBS' Thursday night line-up is Hilary Winston's small screen take on the 2011 movie Bad Teacher. Based on -- but not a sequel to -- the movie that starred Cameron Diaz, CBS's new comedy gets off to a solid start with potential to be a great new series, thanks in part to a well-rounded cast, led by Ari Graynor as the titular "bad teacher."
CBS has lined up the premiere date for their new comedy Bad Teacher, along with the return date of Unforgettable, which will be back with new episodes in April. CBS is also set to do a bit of schedule shifting for Two and a Half Men and The Crazy Ones, both of which air on Thursday nights. Effective February 27, The Crazy Ones will air Thursday at 9:30 p.m. for the duration of its first season run.
It looks like CBS has found room on their 2013-2014 line-up for one more comedy. The network has given a series order to Bad Teacher, a small screen adaptation of the 2011 feature film. The TV series will star Ari Graynor as the titular "bad teacher" in the comedy, which comes from Hilary Winston (Happy Endings, Community).
The CBS comedy pilot Bad Teacher is stocking up on familiar faces. Following the news that Roseanne's Sara Gilbert was signed on to join previously cast Ari Graynor and Ryan Hansen, comes word that Sex and the City's Kristin Davis will also play a role in the planned project, which is based on the 2011 film starring Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel.
The Talk’s Sara Gilbert has signed on for a TV pilot. Despite being very busy with her daytime talk hosting duties, she’s set to join Bad Teacher at CBS. In the pilot, Gilbert will play a teacher named Irene. Usually Irene is calm and fairly easygoing, but when you push her buttons, she will occasionally snap.
Veronica Mars' Ryan Hansen hasn't been able to find a permanent home on the small screen in recent years. Starz' excellent but unfortunately short-lived comedy Party Down was the closest he came to that since playing the amusing but usually-shallow Dick Casablancas in VM, but Party Down only lasted two seasons, and since then Hansen has jumped from project to project. Perhaps he'll have better luck with Bad Teacher, the single camera comedy pilot in the works at CBS.
For a Good Time, Call… actress Ari Graynor has landed a lead in a pilot at CBS. Based on the successful box office hit Bad Teacher, the pilot of the same name will follow a jilted wife who must set her sights on finding a new husband if she wants to maintain her socioeconomic status.
A television adaptation of the Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake movie Bad Teacher could be hitting the small screen. CBS has ordered a script for a half-hour comedy based on the film, to be written by Hilary Winston, who has a long track record of success with comedies like Community and Happy Endings.
