This Week In Home Entertainment Presents The Borgias Season 3 image
The third season of The Borgias is less emotional but more expansive than past seasons, featuring plenty of court intrigue, incest, religious and political maneuvering, love affairs, and more than its share of deaths. Showtime’s family-based drama colors in many of the lines in the lives of Pope Alexander VI (Jeremy Irons) and his family, but the flair quickens the pace of the series and adds charm.

The Borgias Gets A New Season 3 Teaser, Fittingly Titled A New Pope image
With the third season of The Borgias set to premiere in almost a month, added to news of the new Pope, the timing seems especially perfect for a new Borgias teaser. And what do you know? Showtime just so happened to have one ready to go today. It's unlikely that it's a coincidence that the new teaser is titled "A New Pope."

Showtime Renews The Borgias For A Third Season image
Showtime has renewed The Borgias for a third season, set to air in 2013. The move is a little early and perhaps a little surprising, considering the period drama is currently smack dab in the middle of its second season schedule and has been earning almost half the viewers the show earned during Season 1. Still, if you’ve ever caught the drama, it is a fairly compelling story of 15th century Italian crime and the Popedom, and Jeremy Irons is so good, he totally earned a Golden Globe nomination after Season 1

Borgias Season 2 Trailer Contains Plenty Of Backstabbing And Boot-Knocking image
I was really looking forward to Showtime's The Borgias leading up to its premiere last year. Partly that was because of the involvement of Jeremy Irons in the role of the thoroughly corrupt Borgia patriarch, Rodrigo (also known as Pope Alexander VI). And partly it was because I knew a lot about the Borgia clan thanks to my having spent several Assassin's Creed games wandering around Renaissance Italy and trying to stab them in the face.

HBO Wins Big At The Creative Arts Emmys, Multiple Wins For Justin Timberlake And The Borgias image
HBO came out on top at the 2010-2011 Creative Arts Primetime Emmy Awards last night. The Awards ceremony celebrates some much of the talent that goes on off screen on TV, along with awards like Outstanding Guest Actor, Outstanding Host for a Reality Program, and a few other on-screen awards that don’t fit into the regular Emmy’s ceremony.

The Borgias Picked Up For Season 2 image
Who knew a drama series about a Pope would be a success? I suppose when the Pope happens to be extremely corrupt, it adds a few extra layers of intrigue. If you’ve been enjoying Showtime’s The Borgias, there’s good news. Showtime ordered a second season!

Sunday night is fit to burst with worth-watching programming right now and the ratings reflect that as premieres for The Borgias and The Killing were both strong, as were the ratings for the controversial miniseries The Kennedys.

The Borgias Review: Series Premiere image
Set during a pivotal time in human history, Showtime’s The Borgias aims to update the crime drama by looking to its origins. It’s certain that Tony Soprano and Vito Corleone would never have existed without the exploits of Rodrigo Borgia and his family.
