Who needs new ideas when you can simply recycle old ones, tweak them slightly, and give them a new name? Not ABC, that’s for sure. They’ve ordered a new reality series that sounds an awful lot like Big Brother. In fact, it even has a former producer from Big Brother on board.
The Glass House will premiere on ABC on June 18th, Deadline says, and will feature 14 contestants living together and competing for a cash prize of a quarter of a million dollars. The show will be interactive, with viewers allowed to vote on who they’d like to see go, and who can earn a return ticket to the show. The show will be a real-time series, and will also have an online component. There will be a chance for viewers to tune in online a few times during the week, and they’ll be able to vote on things like what the contestants wear, eat and where they will sleep. Perfect for those with the urge to control the lives of strangers. With plenty of new reality shows set to air during the summer, it’s hard to say whether this Big Brother-derived series will interest viewers. There are a number of talent competition shows, and several new dating shows on tap; you might say the market is a little flooded. Most of the reality shows are similar, especially within the genres, so it takes some effort to distinguish one and make it worth watching. This one sounds like it is going to need a little more creativity to differentiate it from Big Brother. Back to top
