American Gladiators Is Back

American Gladiators is quite possibly the greatest game show in television history. Just reminiscing about average humans competing against steroid-ridden wildebeests still brings a smile to my face ten years later. Thankfully, NBC co-chairman Ben Silverman seems to share my fond memories, and the program has been optioned as a midseason replacement.

According to Zap2It.com, the physical challenge based hour will begin producing new episodes for the first time since 1997. Thank God. It’s unclear whether producers will rehire former Gladiator favorites like Nitro, Gemini, Tower, Zap, Gold, and Blaze, but I’m really rooting for a combination of new He-Men and aging stars.

A host has not yet been announced, but I’m betting Mike Adamle would saunter back to his play-by-play booth. He’s currently doing the local news in Chicago, and I must say, it’s quite a waste of his slightly above average talent level. Applications are currently posted on the official website, and if you possess the correct level of strength and blind stupidity, we here at Cinema Blend highly recommend that you fill out the forms. It’s not like you were doing anything else at work today.
