American Idol's Going To Disney WorldAuthor: Kelly West

It’s American Idol season so what better time to break the news that the hugely popular reality series is going to have it’s own attraction at the equally popular theme park, Disney World. As reported by Variety, American Idol producers 19 Entertainment and FremantleMedia have teamed up with Disney Parks and Resorts to feature an attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Hollywood Studios (formerly known Disney’s MGM Studios) is situated in Disney World near Orlando, Florida.
Guests at the park will have the opportunity to audition at video kiosks. A Disney Hollywood Studios Producer will have the job of reviewing all of the videos to determine who is good enough to perform on stage in front of the judges. The judges (Variety didn’t specify who these judges are but I’m thinking there’s a good chance the panel could include park guests) will then vote for their favorites. The auditioners with the highest number of votes will get to perform at the end of the day in a grand finale show. Hollywood Studios once had an attraction based on the game show Who Wants To Be a Millionaire, in which park guests had the chance to play the game. Like that attraction, the Idol attraction is completely separate from the actual show. So getting through to the next round at Disney World’s Idol will unfortunately not get you any closer to making it onto the actual Fox show. I love Disney World. My husband loves the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and I’m a big fan of the Rock ‘n Roller Coaster featuring Aerosmith and Fantasmic! but having been to the park numerous times, I’m thinking they’re definitely due for a few new attractions to keep the place up to date. I think the Idol attraction could be just want the park needs to freshen things up. Now if only they’d update Star Tours. |
