So, maybe Amy Poehler isn't going to be the star of the new Office spinoff. Kristin, the queen of TV Gossip over at E! Online reported last night that Poehler will have a show, but it will not be the spinoff of the uber-popular comedy.
The confusing part of this story is that there will be both an Office spinoff, and a show starring the fabulous Ms. Poehler. Specifically, “the NBC suits said, the just-announced project with Amy Poehler is not a fork of an Office story; it exists as a stand-alone, but it will have a similar tone and style, since it comes from the same writer-producers. At the same time, the execs and writers are also working on an Office spinoff, which will come from the world of Dunder Mifflin.”
I think this is some super news. Think about it – instead of just one show starring Amy Poehler that will be written by the guys from The Office, there will now be two shows, the one with Amy Poehler, and the Office spinoff. Which means there will now be three shows on television written by these witty fellows. How can that be a bad thing? Unless they start running out of ideas, and just recycle from show to show. That would be bad.
As far as the Office spinoff goes, there is one actor signed on. “Aziz Ansari may guest in a few eps of The Office, Scranton Edition, before becoming the seed character of a new Office installment.”
Oh, and Rashida Jones apparently is still under contract with NBC, so who knows. Maybe she will show up on the new show. Or on Amy Poehler's show. I think either way, it would be awesome.
