Behind The Candelabra Preview Takes Us To The Set Of Steven Soderbergh's Liberace Biopic
Coming to HBO next month is Steven Soderbergh's feature adaptation of Scott Thorson's autobiographical novel Behind the Candelabra: My Life with Liberace. The highly anticipated biopic will have Michael Douglas playing the role of the celebrated musician and pianist Liberace, while Matt Damon will play Liberace's lover, Thorson.
The above teaser follows the recently released trailer and teaser in giving us a look at the relationship between Liberace and Scott, as told by Thorson in his novel. Of course, there may be some cause for debate over the truth. Candelabra director Steven Soderbergh told Out.com that Scott and Liberace (or "Lee" as he's known to his friends) tell "completely different stories" about Scott's plastic surgery. "So somebody is not telling the truth," Soderbergh noted, saying he managed to get a hold of the depositions. "We went with Scott’s version because I love the image of Lee bringing the painting over and saying, 'I want him to look like this.'"
We'll see the story play out when Behind the Candelabra debuts Sunday, May 26 at 9:00 p.m. ET on HBO. Yes, that means no Game of Thrones that night, fantasy- fans! But if it's any consolation, it looks like Candelabra will offer some spectacular costumes and plenty of drama. And probably plenty of music.
This Friday, HBO will air The Making of Behind the Candelabra, which will give fans an inside look at the film's production, including the lavish sets and colorful costumes. Here's the trailer for the special,w which airs Friday, May 5 at 9:45 p.m. ET on HBO.
