It’s been six years since A&E has had an original scripted drama series. Perhaps the network’s just been content spinning out reality series like Criss Angel Mindreak and Paranormal State or rerunning hit series like HBO’s The Sopranos. Regardless, according to The Hollywood Reporter, A&E just green-lit a new scripted drama of it’s very own, called The Cleaner.
In The Cleaner, Benjamin Bratt will play William “The Cleaner” Banks, a man who after hitting bottom due to his own addiction issues, strikes a deal with God for a second chance. In exchange, he sets out to help others clean up their acts. The main character is based on a real life “extreme interventionist.” Extreme interventionist? Tough guy with a dirty past makes good with God by forcing junkies to get clean? Sounds like it could be interesting. Production is supposed to start sometime soon and the network hopes to have the show on the air this summer. |
