Britney’s back… again! Many have wondered if the pop star would be performing at the MTV Video Music Awards and alas, that is not to be. The announcement that was made today states that while Spears is set to open the awards ceremony, she will not, in fact, be performing. Perhaps it’s for the best.
After what many considered to be a disastrous (or at the very least, mediocre) performance by Spears at last year’s VMAs, it’s not all that surprising that the media-hounded pop-star might want to avoid repeating that experience. And let’s be honest, regardless of how well she did if she were to take the stage for a performance, it’s likely that people would take extra care to point out even the most minute flaw. Of the role she’ll be playing, Spears said, “MTV has long played an important role in my career. How can I not be there to kick off their 25th VMA’s? I'm excited to open the entire show, to say hi to my fans and to be nominated.” There has been no information as to what we can expect from the opening but I’m sure MTV’s got something worth checking out planned. Spears is up for an award in the following categories: Video of the Year, Best Pop Video and Best Female Video. The 2008 VMAs will air on MTV on Sunday, September 7, 2008 at 9:00 p.m. |
