Britney Spears Returning To HIMYM For One More Episode

Ever since Britney Spears made her first appearance on How I Met Your Mother there’s been talk of her returning to the role of the ditzy receptionist at the dermatologists’ office where Ted went to get his butterfly tattoo removed (and ended up meeting his current girlfriend, Stella, played by Sarah Chalke). Spears’s character developed an amusing (and kind of stalkerish) crush on Ted during the episode.

According to People.com, their sources say Britney is definitely going to appear in another episode of How I Met Your Mother. Their source went on to say, “She had so much fun the first time around she really wanted to come back. It was a mutual decision to work together more.”

It’s doubtful that How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris will be thrilled with this news if People’s source is correct (Fox Studios hasn't confirmed it yet). When the rumors started that Spears’ might be returning to the show, Harris expressed some concern over the idea, fearing that too many guest appearances could create a Will & Grace effect on the series. I’m inclined to agree with Harris. Spears’ appearance on the show was funny and it’s likely that the publicity was a good thing for the series but I don’t think How I Met Your Mother really needs gimmicky guest appearances in order to make the show worth watching. Then again, if the publicity brought on by a second appearance by Spears gives the series enough of a ratings boost to warrant another season, I suppose it’s worth it.
