CMT’s new addition to the world of reality television is Can You Duet hosted by relative unknown, Rossi Morreale. The show is produced by the same people who do American Idol. The judges are slightly more familiar, Naomi Judd, Brett Manning and Aimee Mayo. Okay, I admit, I only know who one of those people are. Naomi used to be famous, and has one daughter who still is. Brett Manning is a vocal coach who is so well-known that I’ve never heard of him. And, Aimee Mayo wrote a bunch of songs, but Amazed (performed by Lonestar), is the only one named.
Detailed background on the judges can be found at CMT.com. According to a press release, the difference between all of the other reality-based singing shows and Can You Duet is profound. “Unlike other talent competition shows, each contestant on Can You Duet will compete as part of a duo, sometimes working with different partners as the competition progresses. As a result, viewers will witness first-hand all the on and off-stage drama to be had in creating a dynamic musical duo. In addition to critiquing each performance and deciding who will advance to the next round, be sent home, and ultimately be crowned country music’s next great duo, judges Judd, Manning and Mayo will also serve as mentors to guide, groom and develop the duets along the way.” The show will premiere Monday, April 14 at 10:30 p.m., ET/PT on CMT. |
