Last night Showtime’s Dexter and Californication returned for their fourth and third seasons, respectively, but if you don’t get the channel and are wondering if they might be worth checking out on DVD, now you can see edited versions of both episodes on YouTube.

Dexter is based on Jeff Lindsay’s novels about a Miami serial killer whose cop father trained him to unleash his darker urges only on other killers. This year, Dexter (Michael C. Hall) is struggling to divide his time between a newborn, his lovely wife (Julie Benz), and a new challenge in the form of the “Trinity Killer.”

Meanwhile, over on the left coast of Californication, womanizing novelist Hank Moody (David Duchovny) has managed to get his creative groove back, but now finds his career stalled nonetheless. His often-masturbating literary agent (Evan Handler) can’t sell Hank’s new book to save his life, his teenage daughter Becca (Madeleine Martin) has become more than a handfull, and a dinner invite from the mother of Becca’s new friend can be summed up with one little word. That word is “mangina.”

Dexter and Californication air Sunday nights on Showtime.

Dexter Episode 401, “Living the Dream”

Californication Episode 301, “Wish You Were Here”
