Simon Cowell has explained his antics from last night’s episode of ‘American Idol.’ Of course, that’s not always enough for people. Cowell has taken some heat today for a moment in last night’s episode where he rolled his eyes during contestant Chris Richardson’s well wishes for his friends at VA Tech. Personally, I didn’t get the impression that Simon was mocking what Richardson said. Cowell told TMZ that he had rolled his eyes during a conversation with Paula in regards to Chris claiming that singing nasally is a form of singing. For the record, it is not.
There’s no issue with questioning Cowell in regards to what is obviously an editing faux pas. What I’m wondering is why so few are calling Chris Richardson to task for what transpired last night on ‘American Idol.’ The episode opened with a statement from the show as a whole delivered by Ryan Seacrest. It was quick, sincere, and appropriate. That should have sufficed for the evening. Later in the night, after he had performed, Richardson made a statement regarding friends at VA Tech and that his thoughts are with them. Everyone here at Cinemablend join Chris in sending our thoughts and prayers to the victims of this tragedy.
What I cannot do is respect someone who would interject such a plea at the very moment we are being told to vote for him. I find it reprehensible to think that even one additional vote could come from his statement. There was certainly no malicious intent on Chris’ part; he appears to be a nice guy. Nor do I think he was intentionally fishing for votes. However, he should have recognized the situation and joined the entire ‘AI’ group at the end of the episode in a statement, rather than using the voting moment to do it. It was an ill-timed statement from a guy who was probably feeling emotional. Whether Simon rolled his eyes at the statement or not, I can say for certain that sitting on my couch last night I rolled my eyes.

ew. anyone that siad that chris was wrong to do it. screwwwww you!!!! gaod dammit. hes allowed ot sayANYTHING HE wants. he was not TRYING to relate to the massicre like someone else had stated earlier. he was ALREADYYYYYYYY related to it. that was his fuckin homeotwn. if some school in your hometwn had a massacre like that youd sure as hell be related to it more then others are. he had every single fucking right to sya what he did. please..it was for likee 5 seconds. did it really waste that much of your time. and a lil something something for happytime: KISS MY ASSS BITCHHHHH!!!! americna idol is gunna be horrible since chris left. the only reason it is still worht watching is for blake. he was def. not trying to get votes cuz he doesnt need them. chris richardson is the hottest americna idol contestant so far and is pretty gosh dammnnn good at singing and performing. what him and blake said about eachtoehr the day he left was heartfilling and touched everybodies soul.
Chris was one of the best ive ever seen...he is cute funny and an awsome voice and a great presence on stage!! he was the total package!!!!! i will miss seeing him singing on the show and his awsome dance moves!
he was not using that time to get votes, he was just doing what he thought was right.. he is from that area, i found it very appropriate for him to say that. That is a stupid way to get votes.. people vote for the contestant they like the most.. the one they think is the best performer or singer, i dont think saying his thoughts and prayes are with VT had ANY affect on voting. thats rediculous. and ignorant to say.
Why would ANYONE think that Chris was wrong in saying what he said? How selfish can you possibly be? He is from Virginia, in California, and not in constant contact with his family or friends! If a school in your home state, better yet your hometown, was the site of a disasterous mass murder, WHAT WOULD YOU DO? He stated that night that he had friends there...I truly cannot believe you had the nerve to post this article. Chris didn't need to lobby for votes, he had enough to begin with. No matter if he wins AI or not, he will be more successful than most of those people anyway!
I really think it's a shame that you, no where near a place to tell him what to do, too the time to write this article. You are not, nor will ever be Chris Richardson, and the fact that he was concerned about something as horrible as the V-tech shootings was a wonderful characteristic. Shame on you.
I was literally shocked when I read this. How can anyone in their right mind think that Chris was anything but concerned!? How can you say that he was wrong in giving the EXTREMELY brief statement for his friends and family living within Virginia and near V-tech? You could clearly see and hear the sincerity in his voice and face, and for someone to criticize his timing or motives is SICK. He didn't need the votes, he was fine anyway. No matter if he wins the "title" or not, he will be very successful.
Chris' heart was absolutely in the right place that night. Shame on anyone with enough nerve to say otherwise. What are you thinking?
It was not disrespectful, wrong or inappropriate. Get over yourselves.
i am a chris fan very much...but i dont think anyone should judge him on what he said. he can say w.e. he wants. it qas deff not for votes....so yea, peace
What Chris did was wrong, inappropriate and very disrespectful regardless of whether or not he knew he had a chance to speak later and regardless of where he is from and what school his friends go to. The guy tried to connect himself to the worst school shooting in US history. 32 people murdered and a country in shock and he brings this up at the very moment when we are to consider to vote for him on a talent show?
I must agree with the others and say that Chris Richardson doesn't need to explain himself AT ALL.
The others obviously don't live in Virginia and many of Chris' friends might have been involved in the horrific trauma of what happened. There's a difference between just giving your condolences and ACTUALLY having those you love apart of something so disastrous.
If he got the "fishing votes" or whatever good for him. We will never know if what he did was intentional to create sympathy, so we can only say that what he said was sincere. IMO, I believe Chris was being truthful and was honestly hurt because these people came from HIS hometown. He has the right to make a personal statement of his own other then the one Seacrest made.
Anyway, I'm sick of this subject so MELINDA DOOLITTLE FTW!
I'm not Chris fan either, but give the guy a break. Maybe he didn't think he would have the opportunity to speak later. I don't believe he was trying to get votes; and how can you suggest he didn't recognize the situation? Obviously, he did, and wasn't concerned with how YOU would take it but wanted his home state to know he cared. I can't imagine how I would react if something like that happened in SC. And if YOU knew what that felt like, YOU certainly wouldn't be so cold about it.
I'm not a Chris fan but I'm sorry I have to disagree with you. I feel that Chris does not have to explain anything. He was obviously upset over the whole VT shootings because he is FROM VA AND HAS FRIENDS THERE and for u to imply that he said it to get votes is CRAZY!!!!!!
