Conan O’Brien’s gag order expired tonight, at least partially, and for the first time since leaving The Tonight Show he was back on TV. He gave his first interview since the NBC debacle to 60 Minutes in an interview as light on laughs as it was on surprises. You can’t blame Conan, he’s already said all that can be said, and even though he’s now allowed on television he’s still got a clause in his contract which keeps him from disparaging NBC or Jay Leno. Besides, that hard-hitting 60 Minutes style really has a way of sucking the life out of the room.
In the end Conan said what he’s been saying all along: That he’s happy and lucky and things worked out as they should. He credits most of his success to “Irish magical thinking”, which I assume means Will Ferrell enters his bedroom nightly in a Leprechaun costume to inspire him with erotic dances. But for those of you who missed the interview, you’re in luck. I was surprised to discover a few hours ago that not only does 60 Minutes have access to a computer, they have a website on which they stream their interviews almost immediately after they air. The complete Conan interview is online and embedded below. Watch Conan make his first television appearance since being booted off the air, below: Back to top
