Corrupt President Logan Returns To 24

By Jason J. Hughes: 2009-11-02 01:35:54
Corrupt President Logan Returns To 24 Most fans will agree that 24 has had its good years, its not-so-good years, and even a downright bad year or two. But nobody can deny that Season 5 was one of their best. The main reason was in the brilliance of Gregory Itzin's performance as the twisted President Logan. Now, the upcoming eighth season will get an injection of his sleaze, as Itzen has singed a multi-episode arc to recur as Logan, according to Reuters.

President Taylor, the returning Cherry Jones, recruits Logan reluctantly to help her with a diplomatic crisis. There's no word on whether Keifer Sutherland's Jack Bauer will have any encounters with Logan, or if Jean Smart will return as the former First Lady, Martha, last seen trying to stab her husband to death.

The Logans were television gold, and made for one of the most unpredictable and exciting Presidential couplings in the history of television. Any chance to bring either one of them back to 24, a show many feel is aging past its prime, is a great coup for the series.

24 had a bit of a renaissance last season creatively. The addition of Renee Walker (Annie Werschling) as a new partner for Jack was incredibly successful. And the shocking return of Tony Almeida (Carlos Bernard) was handled with the perfect mix of mystery and tragedy. Riding into the new season with the promise of a return appearance by disgraced President Logan is either another sign that the show is getting back on track -- or a desperation ploy.

I like to believe that we're in for a great season. Maybe someday soon Jack will be running CTU the way Bill Buchanan did and Renee will be his crazy rogue agent who crawls through air ducts, tortures people and yells at him on the phone all day.
