Cougar Town Renewed For Season 5

Cougar Town’s move to TBS seems to have worked out. The series, which made the move this year from ABC, has been renewed for Season 5. In spite of a premiere on the new network that brought lower ratings than the numbers it pulled in on ABC, it seems TBS is pretty pleased with the series.

The move to the new network gave the show a second chance at life after it was cancelled, and producers worked hard to promote it, using funny promos and music videos to draw attention. In spite of their efforts, the series did smaller numbers than it had on network, averaging 2.8 million viewers thus far in Season 4. The good news for Cougar Town is, those are pretty good ratings for a cable network, and good numbers for TBS, so the show’s future seems pretty bright at the moment.

Season 4 brought a number of changes for the series, including the loss of showrunner Bill Lawrence, but the Courteney Cox-led comedy with a terrible name seems to be the little series that could, proving that it can keep its head above water in spite of the odds that follow a network move and a new leader all at once.

Cougar Town is set to finish Season 4 on April 9th, so the renewal comes ahead of any numbers for the finale, showing confidence in the series ability to wrap things up strong. Cougar Town airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EST.
