Cox's Cougar Town Gets Busy

Over the last week I’ve been doing my annual DVD re-watch of one of my favorite shows ever: Freaks and Geeks. If you’re familiar with the series then you know the series was like a breeding ground for not-quite-discovered talent. The prematurely cancelled show starred Linda Cardellini, John Francis Daley, James Franco, Samm Levine, Seth Rogen, Jason Segel, Martin Starr and Busy Philipps. Any of those names sound familiar? Pretty much everyone in the show went on to bigger and better things when NBC dropped the series.

So I’m not really all that surprised to see that Busy Philipps has been signed on for a new series. She’s been keeping pretty busy (heh) since her F&G days. She’s had roles in a number of other shows, including Dawson’s Creek, Love, Inc, ER, and more recently, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. She’s also been seen in some films, including He’s Just Not That Into You.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Philipps has been signed on for a role in Courteney Cox’s new comedy series Cougar Town. The single-camera ABC series centers on Julia (Courteney Cox) a newly singled 40-something mother with a teenage son. Philipps is set to play Julia’s neighbor and best friend since childhood.
