After Tim Russert’s death back in June it was assumed that David Gregory would take over as the host of Meet the Press, NBC’s Sunday morning public affairs program. It made sense, Gregory has been a longstanding presence in the NBC news fold. And MTP is a show that needs someone with the presence to take on the Sunday morning public affairs that people have come to expect over the show’s six decade run.
NBC news President Steve Capus made the announcement that Gregory would be taking over for Tom Brokaw effective immediately. Brokaw was brought in as the interim host. This marks the 10th permanent host for Meet the Press. In a statement earlier today Gregory said, "I'm filled with a great sense of purpose as I join a superb team to cover Washington and the world from a treasured platform in our country. Above all, I want to make Tim proud."
In addition Betsy Fischer, who has served as Executive Producer of Meet the Press since July 2002, has extended her tenure with the show.
