It looks as though there’s finally some casting news for the highly anticipated Battlestar Galactica prequel, Caprica. Set to play the role of “Amanda” is none other than Deadwood’s Paula Malcomson. If you don’t want to know anything about the premise of Caprica or the characters, read no further!
The Hollywood Reporter posted the news, saying Malcomson, who in addition to her role as Trixie in Deadwood, was also in ER and HBO’s John From Cincinnati, would be playing Amanda in the series, which will serve as a prequel for the SciFi Channel’s hit series, Battlestar Galactica. Caprica will take us back about half a century before the events that are taking place in BSG and will follow the story of the origins of the Cylons.
The Reporter’s brief description of Malcomson’s role in the show is: “a surgeon who works as a double agent.” Pretty vague. I went back and read the article E! Online’s Kristin Dos Santos posted last month containing some major spoilers about the premise of the Caprica miniseries. According to Dos Santos, Amanda is the wife of Daniel Graystone, a computer genius who uploads his dead daughter’s memories and personality into a machine, thus creating the first cylon. As Amanda is described as a surgeon, it’s possible that she plays a role in the creation of the cylons or perhaps more specifically, the creation of the skinjob version of the cylons (but this is pure speculation here).
As for how she’s a double agent, it’s not clear and the Reporter’s article doesn’t give any details about that so we’ll have to wait and see what new information comes to light about the character in the future.
