Maybe I was a strange teenager, but I clearly remember Sunday nights with ‘Seaquest DSV’ and ‘Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.’ To be honest I’m not sure why I ever liked the latter, except for my blind love of all things kryptonian. So it’s with strange joy that word comes down that Dean Cain, who played Clark/Supes on the sappy Sunday drama, will be swooping down on the Kent farm on ‘Smallville’ in the upcoming season.
According to Variety Dean Cain will appear in the fourth episode of the seventh season. Cain is the second former Superman to appear on the show. Christopher Reeve previously appeared as Dr. Virgil Swan in a brilliant little part that Cain can only hope to be a shadow of. Sort of like his soap opera Superman was a shadow of Reeve’s perfect movie portrayal. Cain will play Dr. Curtis Knox, who is up to some nefarious deeds. Details aren’t entirely clear but Dr. Knox may have found a cure for meteor freaks, but some freaks may not want the cure.
There’s also rumor going around that the producers of the show have been talking to original Supergirl Helen Slater to appear as the aunt of our lovely new Supergirl. Season seven of ‘Smallville’ starts on September 27th.

Actually I thought Dean Cain's Superman was excellent along with Terri Hatcher's Lois Lane... His Superman in my opinion was more human and less comic book, which paved the way for Smallville and Superman Returns. Dean has played the heavy before in a Denzel Washington film which he did outstandingly well.
I found Dean to be a praise worthy actor that gave Superman a real dimension. He made Clark Kent cool
instead of nerdy...and Superman even cooler and real.
A Superman who dealt with racism, sexism and real office
politics. The man was in the NFL and went to Princeton.
He doesn't need to get out of Christopher Reeves' Shadow.
Dean has always been a bright star even before and after
Superman...as well as a producer. The guy is just cool.
