Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary Special Gets A New Poster And Official Title
We are sadly still a few months away from actually getting to see Doctors Matt Smith and David Tennant unite in the 50th Anniversary episode of Doctor Who, which is set to premiere in November, but today arrives a little treat that will hopefully make the wait just a little bit more bearable. As you can see above, the official Doctor Who Facebook page has unveiled the first ever poster for the special upcoming episode, and in doing so has revealed both the title of the show and the official runtime. Echoing the last episode of part two of the seventh series ("The Name of the Doctor"), the 50th Anniversary episode has officially been named "The Day of the Doctor" and will be an extended 75 minutes long - a full half-hour longer than normal episodes.
While there have been very few plot details released about the upcoming episode - which will be airing on November 23rd - what we do know is that it will be jam packed with guest appearances. As seen on the poster, the show will feature both Tennant (returning as the Tenth Doctor) and John Hurt (who was introduced in the final minutes of the last episode), but also set to be a part of the plot is Bilie Piper's Rose Tyler - who was revealed in the exclusive trailer that was shown at San Diego Comic-Con back in July. Jenna Coleman's Clara Oswald will also be back as the Eleventh Doctor's companion and it's been confirmed that the special's main antagonists will be the Daleks (naturally) and the shapeshifting aliens known as the Zygons, who only ever made one real appearance on the show and that was back in 1975.
This poster likely signifies that it won't be too long until we actually get to see a full-length trailer for the special event, but sadly that time has not yet come. Instead I offer you this video of Smith and Tennant sitting down for a chat and talking about their time on the wonderful sci-fi show:
And for those of you who are sad that they won't get to see Christopher Eccleston return as the Ninth Doctor alongside Smith and Tennant, the good news is that he will be a part of Thor: The Dark World that same month, playing the villainous Dark Elf known as Malekith the Accursed. You can watch the trailer for the film below and see the movie in theaters on November 8th.
