Edward Norton will host Saturday Night Live this weekend, marking the actor’s first time at the center of an episode of the long-running sketch comedy series. Not only does this hosting stint seem long overdue, but as the preview reminds us with the "I want you to hit me..." line, there’s an opportunity for any kind of Fight Club related sketch or nod in this episode. Dated or not, let's hope the series takes advantage of that. There’s always room for Tyler Durden! Also the Hulk. Are there any other movies in which Norton’s character had an angry alter-ego? Does Primal Fear count? Either way, there may be an opportunity to mash-up some of Norton’s most memorable movie roles involving characters with inner rage. Too dark? It’s Halloween after all…
And on that note, it’s also well worth noting — as the the last promo and music at the end of the video remind us — that this week’s episode comes less than a week ahead of Halloween, so perhaps there will be one or two Halloween-themed sketches to work into the episode.
Of course, “Weekend Update” is a good place to put some Halloween segments. Here are a couple from way back when:
Jimmy Fallon sings Halloween carols…
And who can forget Adam Sandler’s affordable Halloween costume suggestions?
Of course, NBC has a whole Halloween special for Saturday Night Live set to air next Thursday night in place of Parks and Recreation and the recently cancelled Welcome to the Family, so even if they don’t include any Halloween-themed sketches this Saturday night, we still have that to look forward to next week.
In the meantime, this Saturday night, Edward Norton will host, while Janelle Monae will be the musical guest. And next Saturday (November 2), Scandal star Kerry Washington will host SNL, with Eminem set to perform as the musical guest.
Saturday Night Live airs Saturday at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
