Omigod you guys! It looks like Broadway is coming to MTV. Specifically, “Legally Blonde: The Musical,” as its been reported that the network is looking to air the successful Broadway musical version of the movie by the same name sometime in October. No official date has been set as of yesterday but talks are apparently in the works.
The New York Post reported that MTV struck a deal with the producers of the show to tape the production and air it on the network later in the fall. Whether this is the result of the high ticket sales of Grease! on Broadway after NBC’s reality competition, Grease: You’re The One That I want or the fact that young people proved that they just love watching musicals on TV after the record-breaking ratings for the premiere of High School Musical 2 on the Disney Channel, one can only speculate.
The Post did mention that while Legally Blonde: The Musical had a successful summer, ticket sales have begun to drop down a bit. Their article stated, “Weekly grosses will dip in September and October, and advance ticket sales into next year are starting to slip as well, sources say.” Perhaps a televised production will inspire MTV’s viewers to head to New York to see Elle Woods prove that blondes not only have more fun, but they can also sing, dance and practice law.
In case you never saw the popular film, Legally Blonde (the movie) stars Reese Witherspoon and centers on Elle Woods, a college student who gets into Harvard Law School to win back her snobby boyfriend.
Laura Bell Bundy plays Elle Woods in the Broadway production. Veronica Mars fans might remember her from the episode titled, “Green Eyed Monster” in season 2. She played Julie, a woman who hired Veronica to find out if her man was cheating on her. For more information about the Broadway musical, check out the “Legally Blonde: The Musical” website here
