Emmy Ratings Up From Last Year

Were you watching the Emmy’s last night or were you busy watching the Giants play the Cowboys? From what CBS posted on the Emmy ratings, it seems that the big game was the only thing keeping the Emmy’s from hitting the number one spot on Neilsen’s ratings in a number of age brackets.

CBS posted the following news about this year’s Emmy ratings:

“THE EMMY AWARDS (S) from 8:00-11:00 PM was second in households (8.7/14), viewers (13.32m), adults 25-54 (4.9/11), adults 18-49 (4.2/11) and adults 18-34 (3.4/10) - only behind NBC's coverage of the New York Giants at the Dallas Cowboys at the new Cowboys Stadium.Compared to last year's ceremony, THE EMMY AWARDS was up +6% in both households (from 8.2/13) and adults 18-34 (from 3.2/08), +9% in adults 25-54 (from 4.5/10), +11% in adults 18-49 (from 3.8/09) and added +980,000 viewers (from 12.34m, +8%).This is THE EMMY AWARDS best delivery in households and viewers since 2006 (when it did not air against football), in key demos since 2007.

No surprise that the Emmy’s did better than last year. With the hilariously entertaining Neil Patrick Harris hosting the event, there was more to look forward to this time around, especially given last year’s sloppy multi-host setup. I think we can all agree that having the reality host nominees switch-off was a bad idea and I’m glad to see they fixed things this year by putting Harris at the wheel and let him use his vocal talents and quick wit to keep the show going. My only complaint about last night’s ceremony is the same complaint I have every year: It’s too long and there are too many categories! Eh, maybe I’m alone there. If not, speak up in the comment section below!
