Emmy Watch: Rumored Lists For Best Comedy Actor Semifinalists

While the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences was kind enough to post the top top ten drama and comedy series in consideration for Emmy nominations this year, they haven’t been as generous with the other categories. Thankfully, The LA Times blogger Tom O’Neil has managed to come up with eight of the top ten actors up for the Best Lead Comedy Actor nominations list. O’Neil didn’t say where he got the top seven (he added Brad Garrett to the list later) or why he doesn’t have the final two but he’s working in it. In the meantime, here’s the list of eight of the ten semi-finalists for Best Lead Actor in a comedy series:

Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock ("Rosemary's Baby")
Steve Carell, The Office ("Goodbye, Toby")
Larry David, Curb Your Enthusiasm ("The Bat Mitzvah")
David Duchovny, Californication ("The Last Waltz")
Lee Pace, Pushing Daisies ("Pie-lette")
Tony Shalhoub, Monk ("Mr. Monk and the Naked Man")
Charlie Sheen, Two and a Half Men ("Is There a Mrs. Waffles?")
Brad Garrett, 'Til Death("Swimming with Starks")

I didn’t even know Curb Your Enthusiasm was still airing new episodes. I suppose that just goes to show how up on am on HBO’s series. Steve Carrell, Alec Baldwin, and Tony Shalhoub were all on the ballot last year. I’d love to see Carrell actually win this year, but I wouldn’t be disappointed if Alec Baldwin took it. I guess we’ll have to wait and see whether either of them get nominations first.

O’Neil also listed a number of possible top-tenners who might fill the final two spots, including Zach Braff, Kevin Connolly, Jason Lee and How I Met Your Mother’s Josh Radnor.

It’s great to see Anna Friel’s name on there for Pushing Daisies. I’d also love to see Tina Fey score a nomination for her work on 30 Rock or even Sarah Silverman for The Sarah Silverman Program.

The nominees will be announced by the Television Academy at 5:40 a.m. on Thursday, July 17.
