While the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences was kind enough to post the top top ten drama and comedy series in consideration for Emmy nominations this year, they haven’t been as generous with the other categories. Thanks to some investigative work from The LA Times’ Gold Derby Blog, here is the list for the Top 10 Semifinalists for Best Drama Actor:
Gabriel Byrne, In Treatment("Paul and Gina: Week 4") Kyle Chandler, Friday Night Lights ("Last Day of Summer") Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad ("Pilot") Patrick Dempsey, Grey's Anatomy ("Freedom, Parts 1 & 2") Michael C. Hall, Dexter ("There's Something About Harry") Jon Hamm, Mad Men ("The Wheel") Eddie Izzard, The Riches ("Last Temptation of Wayne") Hugh Laurie, House ("House's Head") Denis Leary, Rescue Me ("Babyface") James Spader, Boston Legal ("The Court Supreme")
I love that Bryan Cranston is being considered for his role in Breaking Bad. He’s got some stiff competition against Dexter’s Michael C. Hall and House’s Hugh Laurie and pretty much everyone else on the list but it’ll be interesting to see if he makes it onto the list of official nominations.
LA Times’ Gold Derby Blog got this list of top ten females up for Best Actress in a Drama series from a a person on a fan site claiming that they saw the list from their grandmother, who is voting in this category. I seriously hope this list is accurate because not only is Glenn Close on their for her role in Damages, but Battlestar Galactica’s Mary McDonnell is also apparently being considered for a nomination:
Patricia Arquette,Medium ( "Aftertaste") Glenn Close, Damages ("Pilot") Minnie Driver, The Riches ("Dead Calm") Sally Field, Brothers and Sisters ("History Repeating") Mariska Hargitay, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit ("Undercover") Holly Hunter, Saving Grace ("Tacos, Tulips, Duck and Spices") Elisabeth Moss, Mad Men ("The Hobo Code") Mary McDonnell, Battlestar Galactica ("Faith") Kyra Sedgwick, The Closer ("Manhunt") Jeanne Tripplehorn, Big Love ("Take Me As I Am")
There’s a lot of love for the women from cable shows up there. It’ll be interesting to see which of them make the cut.
The nominees will be announced by the Television Academy at 5:40 a.m. on Thursday, July 17.
