It’s been a while since there was any exciting upcoming television news, with most projects shelved or on indefinite hiatus, so it’s exciting to see four new posters for Fox’s Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, a spin-off of the classic Terminator movies. The series, set to debut over two nights on January 13 and 14, stars Lena Headey as Sarah Connor, the character played by Linda Hamilton in the Terminator films. She and her son John (Thomas Dekker), who is believed to hold the key to saving the world in the future, are on the run after the destruction of the T-1000 Terminator, which took placed in Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
Three of the four posters show what must be Terminators, female faces or figures revealing robot parts (a metal spinal cord, metal patches under the cheek, or only half a body). The fourth features just Sarah Connor, bent over and holding a gun, with a tagline reading “The mother of all destiny.” The look of the terminators is really promising, given how far technology has come since the first Terminator films and how much more realistic and terrifying they now have the potential to look. Headey also totally looks the part, even resembling Linda Hamilton a bit in the photo. The Bionic Woman had better watch her back.
Full-size versions of the posters are available at EntertainmentWeekly.com. We can probably expect a lot more marketing hype in the months to come, especially since that’s virtually the only new thing we’ll have to look forward to come January. Here’s hoping the fact that the reviled 2003 blockbuster Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines plays no role in the show’s timeline means the show will closer resemble the earlier, more successful films. At the very least, television’s always got room for another female badass, and Lena Headey as Sarah Connor seems more than ready to take on that role.
