Ex TVMD Neil Patrick Harris Promotes Old Spice

Ex TVMD Neil Patrick Harris Promotes Old Spice One of the things that makes Neil Patrick Harris so awesome (to borrow a frequently used word from his HIMYM character, Barney) is that he’s not afraid to poke fun at himself. Harris might be widely known for his role as neo-yuppie, Barney on How I Met Your Mother but many of us remember when he played the adorable kid-genius, Doogie Howser, MD. Harris hasn’t forgotten his roots either and he’s using his former fake-doctorness to promote Old Spice.

Here’s the video for the ad:

Before I saw the video above I spotted a similar Old Spice ad in a recent issue of Entertainment Weekly. After reading the hilarious blurb from the ex TVMD, I noticed that the man on the bed looks very familiar. Check out the picture in the gallery below. Is that not Anthony Stewart Head (most commonly known for his role as Giles in Buffy)? This definitely wouldn’t be the first time that Harris collided with someone from the Whedonverse. Not only does he star alongside Alyson Hannigan (who played Willow in Buffy the Vampire Slayer) but he’s also set to star in Joss Whedon’s sure to be awesome online miniseries, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog!

Getting back to the Harris-Doogie stuff, in case you haven’t gotten around to watching How I Met Your Mother (or if you have and are in the mood for a great Barney moment), here’s a clip from the series featuring Harris paying homage to his old blogging days:
