Fallon To Take Over As Late Night Host

Well it looks like NBC found a host to take over Conan O’Brien’s job next year. It’s being reported that former Saturday Night Live star Jimmy Fallon has been locked in to host Late Night once the position opens up next year.

Fox News reported this, saying that NBC will make the formal announcement around May 11 or 12 but that Fallon hosting Late Night is a “done deal.”

As Jay Leno is set to retire from his role as host on The Tonight Show in May 2009, Conan O’Brien will step up and take over that position, leaving his own job open. That’s where Fallon, who spent some time hosting “Weekend Update” on SNL comes in.

I’m not sure how I feel about this. There’s a part of me that finds Fallon charming in a goofy-cute kind of way but I’m not sure that I’d ever considered him to be funny enough to host a show as big as Late Night. Then again, it’s been a while since I’ve seen him in anything so perhaps he’s grown past that messy-hair frat-boy act, which got kind of tired after a while.
