Fishburne Headed To CSI?

I’m sure you’ve all heard the news that William Petersen is ultimately leaving CSI. Thank goodness, he will be back for at least a partial season, and they aren’t just going to kill him off with some crazy storyline that supposedly happened while we weren’t looking.

My disappointment over this announcement was very high – high enough that I didn’t want to watch the show anymore. I love William Peterson as the prickly Gil Grissom, and can’t think of any good reason (except George Eads) to continue watching once he is gone. However, the people who decide such things at CBS have started leaking info about Bill’s replacement, and the news has gotten me downright excited.

Who is it, you may ask? Well, there have been rumors, and the names that have been thrown around are Kurt Russell, John Malkovich and Laurence Fishburne. Kurt Russell is iffy for me, but either John Malkovich or Laurence Fishburne would freaking rock. According to Yahoo News , Fishburne is the current favorite of CBS execs.

The character is not going to be some junky replacement, but will add a whole new crazy element to the show. “Sources say Fishburne is being heavily courted to play the new character, described as a doctor/scientist outsider to the CSI unit who has the same genetic profile as a serial killer but hasn't previously acted on any homicidal impulses.” Sweet!

Fishburne’s career has been long and diverse. He began acting around 1968 on One Life To Live, was Morpheus in the Matrix movies, Ike Turner in What’s Love Got To Do With It, and Othello in the Kenneth Branagh version of the Shakespearean classic (just to name a few). And, I almost just peed my pants when I saw this one on IMDB.com - he was Cowboy Curtis on PeeWee’s Playhouse .

From Cowboy Curtis to potential Serial Killer – I think Laurence Fishburne could receive my vote for best actor…ever.
