The Arrow spinoff The Flash has revealed an exciting new extended trailer today. Clocking in at more than five minutes, the video begins with tragedy before bringing us to the present day Barry Allen. Following up on the teaser that aired during last night's Arrow Season 2 finale, the CW has released new photos, video and an official synopsis for their anticipated Flash spinoff series, which will have Arrow guest star Grant Gustin reprising his role as Barry Allen, aka The Flash.

Barry Allen was just 11 years old when his mother was killed in a bizarre and terrifying incident and his father was falsely convicted of the murder. With his life changed forever by the tragedy, Barry was taken in and raised by Detective Joe West, the father of Barry’s best friend, Iris. Now, Barry has become a brilliant, driven and endearingly geeky CSI investigator, whose determination to uncover the truth about his mother’s strange death leads him to follow up on every unexplained urban legend and scientific advancement that comes along.Barry’s latest obsession is a cutting edge particle accelerator, created by visionary physicist Harrison Wells and his S.T.A.R. Labs team, who claim that this invention will bring about unimaginable advancements in power and medicine. However, something goes horribly wrong during the public unveiling, and when the devastating explosion causes a freak storm, many lives are lost and Barry is struck by lightning. We saw Barry Allen get hit by lightning in Arrow, and that's the last time he was seen conscious in the CW series. The new trailer gives us a bit more information on his backstory before finally showing us Barry Allen post-lightning storm. He's awake, and he's fast! He even heals fast, which is a good thing, because when you can move as fast as he can, stuff's probably going to get broken.
But as the synopsis and the trailer reveal, Barry's not the only metahuman out there. There's also this guy...
The trailer shows Barry demonstrating his new skills, and dropping in to have a chat with Oliver Queen, who seems to have some motivational words for his friend.

The CW has The Flash lined up for Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m.. While it might be more convenient for fans if the network aired Arrow and Flash back-to-back on the same night, that's not typically CW's strategy, and frankly, I'm glad to have the shows spread out a bit.
