FlashForward: Will It Be Great When It ReturnsAuthor: Jason J. Hughes

Creator David Goyer says FlashForward will be a much different show when it returns in March to ABC. Primarily, it will ratchet up the pace and excitement, which I can't wait for. FlashForward launched as a must-see concept that seemed to have the same intensity as FOX's 24, but quickly derailed with lethargic pacing and no real sense of progression.
With the flash forward of the first season having taken place in May, we'll only have two months before that time -- assuming it's March in show time as well. There's a lot of ground to cover, and not a lot of time to get there, so I'm feeling again confident that they can get it right this second time around. Unfortunately, it may be too late to salvage viewers and earn a second season. It all comes down to how strongly they knock the latter half of the season out of the park. The writers are excited about it because they feel like the first half of the season was just setting the chess pieces on the board, according to Sci Fi Pulse. "Now we can just knock the dominos over and watch them fall in interesting ways," said creator David Goyer. "I kind of feel like we did when we got into working on The Dark Knight after finishing Batman Begins: we got done with the origin story, we don’t have to do that anymore, we can now hit the ground running.” It's a little ambitious to think that the rest of the first season of FlashForward will be The Dark Knight of the winter half of this season, but wouldn't it be impressive if they pulled that one off? The talent and the pedigree is there. Maybe this hiatus to sit back and evalute what was and wasn't working is just what the show needs to right the train. FlashForward is scheduled to return to ABC on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 8 PM ET. |
