It looks like Fox is going to be offering a little perk to college students next month. The network has announced that they’ll be offering on-campus college students the opportunity to watch the season premiere of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and series premiere of Fringe online.
Here’s the thing though, the episodes will be streaming online simultaneously with their primetime premieres. So college students living on campus with access to the internet (through an internet domain ending in .edu) will be able to log on and watch the episode online as opposed to watching it on their TV. That in itself doesn’t really seem like a huge perk to me because it’s not like they’ll be letting college kids get to see the episode before anyone else. SciFi did that with certain episodes of Battlestar Galactica last season when they allowed fans to watch the episode streaming live on the network’s website earlier in the day before the episode aired during it’s normal timeslot later that night on the network. So it wouldn’t be unheard of for Fox to give fans a head start on the seasons but that’s apparently not the case.
In addition to the “simul-streams,” Fox will also be streaming pre and post-shows featuring behind-the-scenes footage, music videos and cast and producer interviews. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles will air on Monday, September 8th at 8:00 p.m. Fringe will premiere on Tuesday, September 9th at 8:00 p.m.
