Attention 24 fans: There will be no 24 this season. Yes, you read that right. Once again, we have the current writers strike to thank for this. Given the choice between airing whatever episodes they have in the can and then being forced to put the show on hiatus vs. not premiering this season at all, Fox has unfortunately decided to go with the latter.
The Hollywood Reporter announced this news along with some other updates as to Fox’s plans for their midseason shows. Fans of 24 were certainly geared up for the new season after seeing this trailer. The Reporter didn’t say whether or not Fox was considering bringing 24 back in the fall or if we’ll have to wait more than a year for the new season, which will mark the return of Tony Almeida.
As frustrating as it is to learn that we might have to wait a year to see Jack Bauer’s next worst-day-ever, I can kind of understand why Fox is doing this. The series is filmed in real time and takes place over the course of a 24-hour period. If they aren’t sure if they’ll be able to finish the day/season, it makes sense that they just postpone it until this whole strike business comes to an end.
In the meantime, Fox plans to put their new series, The Sarah Connor Chronicles in 24’s Monday night (9:00 p.m.) timeslot starting January 14th, following Prison Break.
