Fox Wants Women To Rule The World

By Dean Brooks: 2007-01-18 13:28:21
Fox Wants Women To Rule The World It appears the Greek myth of the Amazon women is about to jump into reality…TV, that is. The producers that brought us such worthwhile classics as ‘Temptation Island’ and ‘Joe Millionaire’ have just gotten the green light from Fox to start work on 11 episodes for a show tentatively titled ‘When Women Rule the World.’ Ironically-named Rocket Science Laboratories will produce the show along with exec producers Jean Michel-Michenaud, Chris Cowan and Charles Duncombe.

Overseeing the girl-power project is Mike Darnell, executive vice president of alternate programming for Fox. He sums up the premise of this bizarre new show like this:

"You take 12 attractive women who feel like it's still a man's world and who think they've hit a glass ceiling, and you give them their own society to run. Then you take 12 macho, chauvinistic guys who also think men rule the world and see how they survive in a world where they're literally manservants. ... They'll have to obey every command from the women."

Yes, but will there be a pillow fight amongst the 12 women at any time on the island? That’s the big question.

While other reality shows incorporate lavish accommodations into its setting, the men in ‘Women’ will have to build everything from scratch, as well as find water and heat. The manservant who manages to survive the voting process will win a quarter million dollars. I guess that’s the going price for masculinity these days.

As reported by Variety and tvgasm.com, the women will elect a queen to rule them and make certain key decisions. However, while the men may have to contend with women masters, the women won’t be without their troubles. As each man is voted off the island, friction may result as the women end up with fewer manservants to do the heavy lifting.

Darnell also adds, "This is a social experiment and not a sexual experiment. We decided, why not create this Petri dish of a society and see what happens." Right, it’s a “social experiment,” and not mindless male masochistic titillation on TV. Whatever, Darnell.

‘Women’ does not have a definitive air date yet, but look for it to ooze onto your screen sometime this spring.
