Game Of Thrones: 10 Reunions We Need To See In Season 6

Game of Thrones has no shortage of characters, and even the occasional bloodbath isn’t enough to cull the ranks too much. Luckily, that plethora of personalities has meant that some fantastic and often unexpected dynamics have developed. Forming bonds doesn’t always work out in a world in which death is so random and ever-present, but those bonds can work as reprieves from some of the doom and gloom.

Now that Season 6 is upon us, the time has come to consider which characters must reunite sooner rather than later. Admittedly, some of these unfortunate folks are more likely to die by the end of the season than to reconnect with anyone, but anything is possible at this point. So, in honor of the upcoming premiere of Season 6, check out our list of ten reunions that we need to see on Game of Thrones.

Jaime and Brienne

Brienne And Jaime

Brienne of Tarth and Jaime Lannister developed one of the most unexpected friendships of the entire series. When they met, Brienne was in the service of Catelyn Stark and Jaime was a captive whose sole purpose in life seemed to be to taunt everybody around him. They got into a brutal swordfight that ended in their capture by some seriously bad guys that chopped off Jaime's hand and assaulted Brienne. Then, they shared a bath and a bear pit and a bond that survived the return to King’s Landing. Brienne is presumably cleaning Stannis’ blood off Oathkeeper in the North and Jaime is en route to King’s Landing with his daughter’s corpse, so a reunion likely isn’t in their particularly near future. Still...Friends who bathe together stay together.

Jon Snow dead

Jon And Life

Jon Snow was last seen in Season 5 seemingly dead on the frozen ground at the Wall, and Kit Harington has spent most of the hiatus before Season 6 proclaiming that Jon is indeed super dead and not coming back. Considering that Jon died in close proximity to a priestess who could definitely bring him back to life, however, a lot of us have been figuring that he won’t be dead for long. He’s our primary point-of-view character at the Wall, and he’s the glue that’s holding the alliance with the wildlings together. The reunion between Jon and life isn't that out of the question, and it's hopefully a reunion that happens sooner rather than later in Season 6. We’ve been enduring months of the "Is he or isn’t he?" debate about his death; now that's been solved, so we deserve to see him back among the living ASAP.

Arya and the Hound

Arya And The Hound

Arya met some interesting characters during her seasons wandering around the Riverlands, and her partnership with the Hound in Season 4 was such a bizarre buddy comedy/bloodbath combination that was always fun to watch. He went from captor to companion pretty quickly, and even her refusal to take his name off of her kill list didn’t stop them from forming a bond. Of course, she did leave the Hound for dead when he was gravely injured and tried to goad her into putting him out of his misery, so his odds of survival didn’t look to great back in Season 4. Still, the Hound may not be quite as gone as he seemed, and a possible Season 6 return could mean a reunion with Arya.

Theon and Yara

Theon And Yara

Theon and Yara kicked off their adult relationship when Yara let him grope her under the pretense that she was a random girl on Pyke, but the Greyjoy siblings began to show signs that they still cared for each other thereafter. Yara traveled to Winterfell when Theon was on the verge of losing his hold as well as his life, and she embarked on an ill-advised mission to rescue him from the clutches of Ramsay Bolton even after her father declared that the castrated Theon was no longer his son. Theon was unfortunately so traumatized by Ramsay’s conditioning that he refused to flee with Yara, but he made a stand as of the end of Season 5. Given that Yara is returning in Season 6, the time may have come for the siblings to meet once more.

Dany and Jorah

Jorah And Dany

Dany’s closest confidant and most trusted advisor through the first four seasons of the show was undoubtedly Ser Jorah Mormont, who fell in love with her over the course of their adventures. Unfortunately, his adoration and loyalty came after he’d already betrayed her to Varys in King’s Landing, so he was banished from her side in Meereen when she learned of his treachery. He ultimately made his way back to her with Tyrion in tow, and he did manage to avoid execution for disobeying her order to never return, but they were separated once more when Dany hopped on Drogon’s back for a ride. With Jorah slowly dying of greyscale and Dany now in the hands of the Dothraki, the chances aren't great for the two reuniting once more while both are fighting fit, but they both deserve one last tête-à-tête for closure.

Arya and Gendry

Gendry And Arya

The friendship between Arya and Gendry went from convenient to comedic to completely charming by the end of their time together. Arya wanted Gendry to travel with her to Riverrun to join her family, but Gendry believed that their class differences would keep them apart once she made it back to her social equals. They were prematurely forced apart when the Brotherhood Without Banners sold Gendry to Melisandre to be sacrificed. Davos freed Gendry and sent him rowing his merry way back toward King’s Landing, and…that’s it. Gendry hasn’t been seen since hopping in his little boat at the end of Season 3. He needs to reunite with somebody just so we can find out what happened to him, and Arya would be the perfect character to bring him back into the mix.

Dany in Meereen

Dany And Westeros

Daenerys Targaryen has spent five seasons so far working toward an eventual invasion of Westeros to retake the Iron Throne in the Targaryen name. Unfortunately, she seems to be getting farther and farther from the Seven Kingdoms as more time passes. Her story has been so disconnected from the rest of the show that it hasn’t always felt like it fits. Tyrion showing up in Meereen was a step in the right direction toward bringing her back across the Narrow Sea, but she dragon-flew right into the clutches of a Dothraki army. The last Targaryen has only ever been in Westeros when she was born on Dragonstone, but it’s time for her to return and join the rest of the characters in the main plot.

Sansa Stark

Sansa And Jon

Game of Thrones has been toying with the possibility of some of the Stark kids finally reuniting for years now. There have been some close calls, but they’ve all been separate ever since Bran and Rickon parted ways. Now that Sansa is in the North and isn't likely to leave any time soon, the time has come for two of Ned’s children to meet once more. Jon and Sansa could easily cross paths in Season 6, whether because of a resurrected Jon marching on Winterfell to deal with the Boltons or Sansa fleeing to the Wall for protection. Of the kids, Jon and Sansa seemed to be the most distant pair, so seeing them back together as very different people could be fascinating. Besides, Game of Thrones has done too many Stark reunion fakeouts for two to never interact again after being so close.

Jaime and Cersei

Jaime And Cersei

Jaime and Cersei may not be the most heartwarming duo in Westeros, but they sure are compelling to watch. Jaime is quite genuinely in love with his sister, and Cersei is quite willing to use that love to her advantage. Jaime’s refusal to kill Tyrion after Joffrey’s death kept the twisted twins from getting too close for a decent stretch of Season 4, and Jaime setting sail for Dorne to rescue/abduct his niece/daughter meant that they were separate for most of Season 5. Hopefully, Season 6 will put back together this brother and sister who kicked off the War of the Five Kings with their affair, so that they may find some fresh trouble before inevitably being separated again. They may make each other worse people, but they’re definitely entertaining.

Jon and Arya

Jon And Arya

Of all the Stark kids, the two that were closest back in Season 1 seemed to be Jon and Arya. Jon’s gift of Needle to Arya has helped her to hold on to her identity as a daughter of Ned Stark even after all of her ordeals, and she couldn’t even get rid of it when she agreed to give up everything to become an assassin. Jon should at least discover that she’s stuck plenty of people with the pointy end of Needle to save herself, and a reunion between the bastard who became a lord commander and the little sister who became an assassin could be a great reminder of how far these two characters have come.

Season 6 of Game of Thrones premieres on April 24 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
