It amazes me that paleontologists are still able to find the bones of undiscovered prehistoric species just waiting to be plucked out of the earth and studied. I suppose it’s hard to picture there being any available land out there ripe for digging but the paleontologists featured in History’s new series Predator X have found such a place and later this month, viewers will have the chance to see how they came to uncover the remains of a huge creature from the past.
Predator X follows a group of paleontologists from the University of Oslo Natural History Museum on the remote archipelago of Svalbard, which, if you’re staring at the nearest map trying to find it, is about 800 miles from the North Pole. Buried under the ice they find the fossilized remains of what appears to be an entirely new species. It’s a massive predator and the scientists have to excavate it, figure out its significance and see if they can rebuild it. Below is a trailer: Predator X premieres on Sunday, March 29, 2009 at 8:00 PM ET/PT on History. |
