House's Lisa Edelstein Joins CBS' Elementary

Elementary has cast a former House star to take on a guest role on an upcoming episode. Lisa Edelstein will be joining CBS’ new modern-day Sherlock Holmes drama as the CEO of a company that was the target of a bombing.

CBS’ Elementary stars Miller as Holmes and Lucy Lui as an updated, female version of Watson. It also brings the British detective across the pond to investigate crimes in modern day New York City. Edelstein will play the role of Heather Vanowen, whose PR consultant company seems to have been the target for a deadly bomb attack. Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) comes in to investigate the bombing. TVLine says Edelstein will appear on the seventh episode of Elementary, which just premiered to strong ratings last week.

Edelstein’s decision to leave House in its second-to-last season came as a surprise to many fans, and her departure may well have been part of the reason why the Fox medical drama wound up ending its run this past spring after eight seasons on the air. Since leaving she has spent some time on The Good Wife and co-starred in the Lifetime movie Blue-Eyed Butcher.

In spite of concerns that Elementary might be a rip-off of the BBC’s contemporary Sherlock Holmes series, the drama already shows signs of being a hit. With an all-star cast being joined by big name guest stars like Edelstein, odds are good it will continue the ratings success. Lisa Edelstein’s appearance on the show should air in early November.
