Thank you Britney Spears. Thank you for guest starring on How I Met Your Mother. Who would have thought that the gimmick of putting the former Mrs. Federline on such an excellent show would actually have a positive? Ever since Britney played a small part as a crazy receptionist last year, HIMYM ratings have consistently been better and improving. People turned in to see the freak show and found out that the show was worth watching regardless of guests. No longer endanger of being cancelled, HIMYM has become increasingly profitable to CBS. Now, the show is finally being noticed as not only the best sitcom currently on television but also the best one since Seinfeld. Oh, I went there.

CBS wisely this week decided to give then entire cast raises according to THR. Neil Patrick Harris, Josh Radnor, Jason Segal, Alyson Hannigan, and Colby Smulthers will all now make between $90,000 and $120,000 an episode which is a raise of almost double or triple what they made originally. More important to me and other fans of HIMYM is that we found out that their original contract is for seven years and that the new deal adds one more year to the contract! So with How I Met Your Mother currently in the middle of season 4, we can count on watching Ted, Robin, Marshall, Lily, and Swarley (er.. Barney) for an additional four years if the writing and ratings can hold up. The only potential drawback to such a long gestation would be the continual dragging out of who Ted’s wife will be. A normal show would begin to struggle under this gimmick but HIMYM has always been more than just the search for Ted’s wife (It’s Robin. Write it down. I’ll explain later).
