Idol Boosted Ellen's Talk Show To Its Best Ratings Ever
Maybe Wendy Williams should petition to take over for Simon Cowell next season. FOX aren't the only ones benefiting from the ratings juggernaut that is American Idol this season. New host Ellen DeGeneres has seen a healthy increase on her daytime talk show as well. In fact, she just scored her highest weekly average rating ever.
The Ellen DeGeneres Show has been among the most popular of the daytime talk shows since its inception seven years ago. While a 2.9 household rating is still virtually nothing compared to the Oprah Winfrey behemoth (5.1), it does match the season averages of Dr. Phil, and barely ekes out Dr. Oz and Life with Regis and Kelly. Now, Ellen's season average is only 2.4, according to The Hollywood Reporter but it's on the rise thanks to her Idol participation.
If the reception to her continues to be positive, she could find her numbers increasing even more. Especially if she can finagle a way to get Idol cast-offs on her show the way she scored Angela Martin (cut just before the Top 24) recently. With Oprah leaving the air, there's a huge opening for Ellen to grow her audience, and she couldn't have found a better primetime platform to do it on ... as long as she doesn't get exhausted trying to juggle both responsibilities.
Maybe she should just take whatever Ryan Seacrest is taking to keep him going.
