Idol Contestant Cut For Dad's Rule-BreakingAuthor: Kelly West

As the suspense of the Hollywood-portion of each American Idol season is a big part of the build-up for the finals, its understandable that Fox would want the contestants to keep quiet about their status on the show. Unfortunately for one contestant who made it through to the top-24, his father’s disregard for the confidentiality agreement cost him his place in this season’s semi-finals.
People.com posted the news that Michael Lynche was disqualified from this season of Idol after his father told the local paper that his son had made it through to the top 24. That’s a big no-no and Fox is apparently refusing to cut the guy some slack. Sure, sure, rules are rules and papers were signed but with leaks of the top-24 popping up online already (Check out Joesplaceblog.com if you want to be potentially-spoiled on the list of semi-finalists), it seems a bit harsh to knock the guy out of contention for his father’s mistake. He made it to the top-24, which means he was one of twelve male singers who could be headed to the big stage. Here’s Lynche’s golden ticket interview: Maybe I’m going soft or perhaps it’s just a bit of sympathy toward Lynche for having to pay for his father’s mistake, or the fact that I thought his deodorant-collecting story was strangely charming but I feel for the guy. All the same, perhaps Fox would be willing to let the guy try out again next season or else, try his hand at X Factor when that show starts auditioning. |
