Is Mia Michaels Leaving So You Think You Can Dance? Some call her a genius, others an egotist. But Mia Michaels is nothing short of brilliant with her contemporary choreography on Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance. Rumors going around the web of her leaving the show after five seasons began following a cryptic three part Twitter post Michaels made. The problem is she doesn’t say she’s leaving the show.

"I AM OFFICIALLY AN ADORING FAN OF SYTYCD....THANK U FOR 5 WONDERFUL YRS...TO CREATE MOMENTS AND MOVEMENT FOR THE WORLD TO SHARE WITH ME WAS A GIFT...THANKS SYTYCD AND LOOK FORWARD TO WHATS AHEAD FOR ME...LOOKOUT WORLD!!!!!"

The exuberant capslocking was all Michaels. But you can color me confused. I’d also be saddened to have her leave the show, especially if Tabitha and Napoleon continue last year’s trend of uninspired routines. Honestly though SYTYCD has moved beyond needing Mia to be good. Over the last few years producers have wrangled some incredible choreographers into the show, and maybe watching a soon-to-be genius like Travis shine without the uber cloud of Michaels could be beneficial to the show and dance in general.

And if this is goodbye for Mia, she likely has other opportunities to explore. If you’re a fan of her work maybe going out and supporting dance that doesn’t come packaged as a major network program would be good for everybody.
