J-Lo and ABC Team Up For Maid In Manhattan Made For TV

What do you get when you develop a tv show based on a young Latina, living in New York, just trying to make it in this crazy world? Ugly Betty, right? While that is a correct summarization of the plot of that fabulous show; it will also be a correct summarization for Jennifer Lopez’ latest project - Maid in Manhattan.

I know, I know, you are thinking I’m nuts, because Maid in Manhattan was clearly a movie made a few years ago starring J-Lo and Ralph Fiennes. But Yahoo News announced this morning that ABC and J-Lo are teaming up to turn the story into the network’s latest attempt at diversity.

“The show is a different maid in a different Manhattan," said Chad Hodge, who will write the script for the pilot.” Well, I’m glad they cleared that up. J-Lo clearly won’t have time to star in this one, what with the twins and being a dutiful wife to Skeletor, I mean Marc Anthony.

While this does scream of copycat, what with the young Latina living in NYC format and all, I have to admit that they could have a really funny show here. The question is will they just redo the story of the movie? Probably not, according to this quote: “While the hotel's clientele is an obvious part of this world, I'm more interested in the downstairs part of Upstairs, Downstairs” Hodge said, referring to the classic British series.”

Speaking from experience, hotels are seriously hilarious places to work. My husband and I worked our way through college at a hotel – him in the maintenance department and me at the front desk. You wouldn’t believe the stories we have to tell…dead bodies, crazy has-been stars, a man in drag (with a mustache!), and don’t get me started on the staff! Our director of housekeeping was a semi-pathetic older single woman who surprise-surprise lived with a bunch of cats. Try keeping a straight face when a co-worker tells you she lets her kittens suck on her ears…
