Now that CBS’ new vampire drama show has acquired ‘Angel’ co-conspirator David Greenwalt as the showrunner things are changing. The central character remains the same, but his love interest has moved from a TV reporter (so last century) to an Internet reporter. From my personal experience Internet reporters are super cool. The latest changeup in the vampire cop show is the replacement of Rade Serbedija as an ancient vampire to ‘Veronica Mars’ alum Jason Dohring.
Serbedzija originally was cast as Josef, an old school vampire who mentored the main character. Replacing the 60-year-old actor with the 25-year old Dohring is a big casting shift. But it’s indicative of the more modern and interesting changes being implemented by Greenwalt. The part of Josef has been reimagined as a ”young, mischievous hedge-fun trader.”
Along with Joss Whedon, David Greenwalt made ‘Angel’ a popular and well written show about a vampire private eye. When ‘Moonlight’ was first announced it sounded like a rip-off of the ‘Buffy’ spin-off series. Now that Greenwalt is onboard that’s been confirmed. It also means the show is in good hands and CBS could win the vampire wars next season.
