Jersey Shore's Pauly D Closes Series Deal With MTV
It was only a matter of time before one of the Jersey Shore crew broke away from the pack to pursue their own exclusive spotlight in reality TV and it looks like Pauly D might be the first to do it.
MTV made the announcement today that they’ve closed a series option deal with Jersey Shore’s Paul “DJ Pauly D” Delvecchio. A pilot was shot featuring the Jersey Shore housemate back in September and unsurprisingly, MTV seems to think there are new possibilities worth exploring in the series.
“At the heart of Jersey Shore is the unique and genuine cast and Pauly D. truly embodies both qualities,” said Chris Linn, Executive Vice President of Programming and Head of Production for MTV. “He’s distinguished himself onscreen as the fun-loving, well-coiffed and dependable guy you can’t help but want to hang out with. We know viewers are curious about his life away from the shore and we look forward to exploring new possibilities around that.”
Honestly, if I had guessed who might be the first to get their own show, I would’ve thought Mike “The Situation” would cash in there or perhaps Snookie and Jwoww would have teamed up for their own series. I’ll freely admit to indulging in the guilty-pleasure that is Jersey Shore (and I’ll also admit that I plan to tune in to see the cast return to Seaside on January 6th). I can see a Pauly D in his own series and I'll go even further by suggesting that his show may not be the complete train-wreck that is Jersey Shore as far as drama goes. For one thing, Pauly’s easily one of the more likable cast-members in the house. For another, his interest in music makes him a decent fit for a network that was once predominantly known for the art form.
