Jon Hamm To Direct Mad Men's Fifth Season Premiere
We may have to wait until 2012 to see the fifth season of AMC's Mad Men, but we won't have to wait to find out which series star will be directing the first episode. Yes, it seems that Don Draper himself, Jon Hamm, will slide into the director's chair for the premiere of the upcoming (and very delayed) new season.
Despite all of the issues between the network and showrunner/creator Matthew Weiner (the stalled negotiations, AMC threatening the show's return with or without Weiner, and the eventual settlement that assured two more years but delayed the fifth season), it seems that all is starting to fall into place for the return of the multiple Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning series.
TV Line, who first reported the story, also caught up with the star for this exciting(ly bland) comment where Hamm says, “It’s a very exciting challenge that I’m looking forward to with a mixture of utter fear and excitement.” The article adds that Hamm will be following co-star John Slattery, who took to the director's chair for an episode last season.
Pretty nice gig for the former drama teacher and frustratingly talented and handsome Jon Hamm. My only concern is how he can possibly find the time to return to Mad Men and direct when he's clearly needed for at least six or seven Hammeos (cameos for those not yet up on the lingo) a year...like in Bridesmaids, Sucker Punch, 30 Rock, The A-Team, Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis... the list goes on.
