Jon Stewart Has A Real News Moment

Jon Stewart Has A Real News Moment The Daily Show might be a “fake news show” but it wouldn’t be a lie to say that many viewers learn more about current events and politics from that series than they do from the “real” news. So it seems fitting that The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart would have the opportunity to announce on live television that Barack Obama won the election.

In case you missed it, The Hollywood Reporter posted some details about the live Daily Show broadcast, which featured host Jon Stewart and Colbert Report’s Stephen Colbert as the two teamed up to report a mix of fake election coverage and actual numbers that were being reported.

The Reporter described the final moments of the broadcast, stating, “Sensing the end was imminent, the broadcast delayed its signoff for a moment, as offstage producers gave the closing cue while hovering over TV monitors showing CNN -- and when they said the election had been called, the comedians effectively became newsmen.

Interrupting a Colbert writhing in mock disappointment at John McCain's loss, a clearly moved Stewart announced: ‘I would just like to say, if I may ... that at 11 o'clock at night, Eastern Standard Time, the president of the United States is Barack Obama.’”

As I mentioned earlier, a lot of people get their news from Stewart and Colbert’s weekly shows. Both series blend humor with actual current events. I think it’s fair to say that Stewart, who has been hosting The Daily Show for years earned that moment last night. If you want to see “the moment,” watch it below:
