Jon Tenney Joins Aaron Sorkin's The Newsroom

Over the last few months, news of Aaron Sorkin’s HBO drama has been abounding left and right, with various roles assigned to such big names as Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, Jane Fonda, Alison Pill, and Dev Patel, among others. However, with the vague starting date of “sometime in 2012” the project didn’t really sink in as a close reality until HBO created a video ringing in the new year, a video that leaked word Sorkin’s project finally has a concrete title, The Newsroom. Now, The Newsroom has added one more star to its already stacked ranks.

The Closer’s Jon Tenney is set to guest star in the upcoming drama. According to TV Line, Tenney is set to play Wade, the boyfriend of Emily Mortimer’s character, who will play an executive producer at the fictional news network on the show. There’s no word yet on whether Tenney will actually be involved in the newsroom somehow (which could be drama since Mortimer is playing a higher ranking employee) or will just factor in outside of it, but since he’s just guest starring, I think it’s safe to assume Wade won’t be sticking around on the show for too long.

Based loosely on “ MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann telecast,” The Newsroom will focus on UBS, a fake news network. Sam Waterston and Fonda are set to play bosses on the program, with Daniels on board as an anchor and Mortimer as the aforementioned executive producer. Other cast members, like Patel, will fulfill roles inside the network.
